Today we will close the trilogy about inmersive sound with this post about Auro 3D.

Auro 3D is an immersive 3D audio format developed by the company Auro Technologies based in Belgium. It is founded upon Galaxy Studios, a world recognized recording facility located in Mol, Belgium. Wilfried and Guy Van Baelen have built this organization and it ‘s been one of the best companies in this field in Europe since the construction of their first sound in studio in 1980.

Designed along three layers of sound, building on the single horizontal layer used in the 5.1 or 7.1 sound format. This format creates a spatial sound field adding a height layer. This height information is captured during recording and mixed into a standard 5.1 surround PCM carrier. It is not yet the most popular format in the US home market but it is big in Europe and also in Asia.

Auro 3D relies on channel based audio mixing. Speaker arrangements consist of thirteen speakers created immersion using layers of sound produced by ear level and wall-bound height channels located in the front, back and sides of a room.
