Time flies, we all know that, but sometimes it flies so fast you don’t even realise it. Can you believe that movies such as the Planet of the Apes, or Rosemary’s Baby are 50 years old?

Let’s talk about some of these movies premiered in 1968.

2001, A space Odissey

Probably one of the most famous sci-fi movies ever… but much more than that. It was produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick inspired by Arthur C. Clarke’s short story “The Sentinel. Just in case you haven’t seen it (Shame on you! 😉 ) it is about a voyage to Jupiter after he discovery of a black monolith which affect human evolution. The film won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Funny Girl

Barbra Streisand and Omar Sharif starred this romantic musical comedy film directed by William Wyler based on the stage musical of the same title. Streisand won the Academy Award for Best Actress and the movie is considered one of the greatest movie musicals ever filmed.

 The Odd Couple

Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, two great actors together. This American comedy is based on the play written by Neil Simon and it was directed by Gene Saks. Two divorced men decide to live together, but their personalities cannot be more different. Lemmon, a neurotic freak and Matthau, a fun-loving slob living in the same apartment. 30 years later, The Odd Couple II was released, breaking the record for the length of time between an original movie and the sequel with the same cast.

Rosemary’s Baby

It was written and directed by Roman Polansky based on the novel by Ira Levin. Mia Farrow, John Cassavetes starred this movie which chronicled the story of a young pregnant woman who thinks that an evil cult wants to get her baby. It is a classic psychological horror movie

Planet of the apes

Last but not least. This science fiction film stars Charlton Heston, Roddy McDowall, Kim Hunter and Maurice Evans, among others. It is the first in a series of five films made between 1968 and 1973. There was a remake directed by Tim Burton in 2001 and the new reboot series with 3 movies more. If you haven’t watched the original, we strongly recommend you to spend a couple of hours enjoying this masterpiece.
